DANG! I am so excited. I ordered some box sets last night and they're supposed to be here tomorrow. I just cannot wait! I am probably going to be checking the mailbox and front porch about every hour tomorrow. I ordered the Infernal Devices Series, and The Harry Potter Series.
I have already read The Mortal Instruments Series, so obviously I am just itching to read The Infernal Devices. But Harry Potter will be a new one for me, I have been checking out other book review blogs and everyone rants and raves about the books. I love all of the movies, but as everyone knows... THE BOOKS ARE ALWAYS BETTER! (;

"He was gone for three days. Sucked out to sea in a tidal wave and spit back ashore at Coney Island with no memory of what happened. Now his dreams are haunted by a terrifying silver mermaid with razor-sharp teeth.
His best friend Layla is convinced something is wrong. But how can he explain he can sense emotions like never before? How can he explain he's the heir to a kingdom he never knew existed? That he's suddenly a pawn in a battle as ancient as the gods?
Something happened to him in those three days. He was claimed by the sea...and now it wants him back."

Something happened to him in those three days. He was claimed by the sea...and now it wants him back."
I absolutely loved this book! It was so different than any other book I have ever read. I loved how Córdova wrote this book from the perspective of a teenage boy who at first, doesn't know that he is a merman. Most books are about mermaids and this is the first one that I have seen that isn't. This was such a fun book to read I ended up reading it in one day. I just could not put it down.
Tristan Hart is just your normal sixteen year old high school swim team star living by Coney Island, New York. Until one day while he was working his shift as a life guard, a freak storm happens and he thinks he sees a little girl in trouble in the water. When he runs out to save her he gets sucked into the water and ends up disappearing for 3 days. When he washes up on the beach and his friend and his secret love Layla saves him, he has no recollection of what happened except an image of a silver mermaid with a silver shark toothed smile.
Suddenly he feels very different and has no idea why. Until he suddenly grows a tail and discovers that his mom used to be a royal mermaid princess. He learns that his "Grandpa" (the Sea King) is retiring from the throne and that now he has to compete in a competition for the throne with powerful and fierce merman competitors. The Sea King has a powerful trident that he separates into three parts for the contestants to find. But since the trident has been split the powers holding the dark creatures in capture are fading and everything is becoming more and more dangerous.
The beautiful writing style of Córdova astounds me. She paints a beautiful world of things with such detail that you can picture it perfectly in your mind. It makes you feel like you are actually standing (or swimming) there right along with the characters of this story.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone! Kids, teens, and adults. If you come across this book and pass it up I can honestly say that you are missing out on an inthralling, addictive read.
Look for the next books in the series!

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick

"In addition to the P-38, there are four gifts, one for each of my friends. I want to say good-bye to them properly. I want to give them each something to remember me by. To let them know I really cared about them and I'm sorry I couldn't be more than I was—that I couldn't stick around—and that what's going to happen today isn't their fault.
Today is Leonard Peacock's birthday. It is also the day he hides a gun in his backpack. Because today is the day he will kill his former best friend, and then himself, with his grandfather's P-38 pistol.
But first he must say good-bye to the four people who matter most to him: his Humphrey Bogart-obsessed next-door neighbor, Walt; his classmate Baback, a violin virtuoso; Lauren, the Christian homeschooler he has a crush on; and Herr Silverman, who teaches the high school's class on the Holocaust. Speaking to each in turn, Leonard slowly reveals his secrets as the hours tick by and the moment of truth approaches.
In this riveting book, acclaimed author Matthew Quick unflinchingly examines the impossible choices that must be made—and the light in us all that never goes out." - Goodreads
I chose to read this book because I had heard such great things about Quick's other books and I thought that I was missing out on something great. I was really hoping that I would like this book and that it would be one that I would want to read more than once. Unfortunately that was not the case.
There were some things about this book that I liked (e.g. parts of the storyline), and some things that I just really did not care for (e.g. the footnotes). When I read a book I like to glide through it, not to have to stop in the middle of a sentence to read a footnote at the bottom of the page and then have to re-read the sentence that I was on just to get the flow back. Also there were some pretty repetitive points in this book, like when Leonard is constantly wondering why his teacher Herr Silverman is always wearing long sleeve shirts. I just thought that the book was just too slow for my taste. Another thing that I didn't like was how the book came to such an abrupt ending.
However, there were some points in the book that I really did like. The relationship between Leonard and his neighbor (Walt) was very interesting to me. Even though they didn't talk much about things, you could tell how deeply they cared about each other and how worried Walt was about Leonard. Another thing that I liked was how Herr Silverman (Leonard's Teacher) opened up to Leonard so much and looked out for him in a way that his mother never did. Quick definitely has an understanding though about how the modern teenage mind works and he portrays his characters very well.
Overall, I didn't absolutely love this book. But that doesn't mean that you won't! If you have read some of Quick's other books and really liked them, then I would advise you to give this one a shot.
